Robert L. Vanderscors, 91, of Marysville, died peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2016.

He was born October 11, 1924 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Louis L. and Isabel Oliver Vanderscors. He married Doris P. Cohick on December 24, 1945 in Salladasburg, Pennsylvania. She preceded him in death after 62 years of marriage on May 7, 2007.

Bob graduated from Grandville High School in June 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Hill, Destroyer Escort 141 as a Petty Officer Fire Controlman. After his service, he returned to Michigan State University and graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, and also received a Second Lieutenant commission in the Army Ordnance Reserve. Bob held various management positions with Diamond Crystal Salt Company until his retirement in 1987 after 21 years of employment.

He was a member of the Manistee, Michigan JC's and served two terms as President. He was a life member of Lisbon-Crescent Masonic Lodge #229. He was also a member of the Marysville United Methodist Church and served three terms as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was a member of both the V.F.W. May O'Brien Post #8465 and the American Legion Marysville Post #449. He was also a life member of over 45 years in the Marysville Lions Club and had served two separate terms as President.

Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his daughters, Joanne Kilbourne and Jean Ann Burleigh; son-in-law, Jeremy Nelson; grandchildren, Marnie, Lacey, Shane, Heidi, and Dulce; brother-in-law, James L. "Buddy" Cohick; and good friends Sally Bohs, and Grant and Dollie Partridge. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Ronald Kilbourne in 2012; and grandson, Anthony Burleigh in 2011.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday in Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in Marysville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
