Ernest Wayne "Ernie" Winston, 76, of Marysville, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

He was born May 14, 1940 in Grayling to the late Ernest Walter and Bernice Aletha Winston. He married Gloria "Jean" on February 20, 1965 in Grayling.

Ernie worked as a union laborer in the construction industry before his retirement. He was a member of Marysville Lodge #498 F. & A.M. and a Past Master of Lexington Lodge #61 F. & A.M. He had a passion for baseball and enjoyed coaching for much of his life. He passed on his love of coaching to his sons who continue this legacy. Later in life, Ernie served as the "professional scorekeeper and analyst" for Marysville Viking baseball. More important than anything, however, were his grandchildren, who his world centered around.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean; four sons, Stew (Lisa) Winston of St. Clair, Ernest Jr. "Ernie" Winston of Cadillac, Todd (Natalie) Winston of Hinckley, Ohio, and Shawn (Nicole) Winston of Marysville; seven grandchildren, Sam, Jak, Hannah, Meghan, Zachary, Hunter, and Colton Winston; a sister, Ardith (Herb) Wilcox of Alpena; a brother-in-law, Leo Palmer of Grayling; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor (Walter) Sanccartier and Lois Palmer.

Memorial visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 10, 2017 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville.

Memorials may be made to the Ernie Winston Baseball Scholarship Fund.
