He was born January 3, 1928 in Detroit to the late Emil and Johanna Fick. He married Joann Reid on September 6, 1952 in Caro, Michigan.

While in high school in Detroit, Don entered the co-op program and gained employment with DTE. He served his country in the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of Master Sargent. After his service he returned to the employ of DTE. While raising his family he earned his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University. He enjoyed a rich and rewarding career with Edison. In retirement he continued to pursue his passions, including building his dream home on the St. Clair River with his wife Joann. His devotion to God and his community led him to be on the Board of the Marysville Housing Commission from the construction of Vicksburg Hall until 2014, a Life Member of the Port Huron Schubert Club, choir member and Elder at Trinity Lutheran Church Port Huron.

Don enjoyed volleyball, baseball and swimming. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed traveling and hunting the American West, Canada, camping with his family in Michigan and South Carolina and going on cruises to the warm ocean waters and Alaska. He was also a proud participant of the Senior Olympics winning multiple metals.

His life was full of love for his wife, his family, his God, music, sports and his Brittany dogs that have passed before him Lassie, Patsy, Georgie, Mollie and Chase O, all of which gave him great comfort.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 63 years Joann; children, Susan (Todd) Moore, Kathleen (Chuck) McCready, twin sons Robert (Sandra) and Donald (Amy) Fick; grandchildren Cassandra (Adam), Mikel, Christina (Justin), Andrew, Bryan, Anne Marie and Marshall; great grandchildren Elijah, Jackson and Wyatt; sister-in-law, Sybil Behnke; nieces and nephews, Diane, Kris, Barbara, Debbie, Diane, David, Cherrise and Marilyn; and his cat, Fluke.
